World Pyro Olympics: Day 1 (May 3, 2008)

I woke up at high noon so I did not have much time to prepare my gears. My AA rechargeable batteries are still charging up so I could not leave just yet. After all, I just plugged in the charger at 8 am. It usually requires 8 hours of continuous charging. I know that’s a whole day of work already.
The Friday weather forecast said we have 20% of precipitation. That probably meant 20% of the day will be marred with heavy rains. Just before 4 pm, heavy rains poured like all waters in the atmosphere are headed down for the earth. The Aliwan Fiesta suddenly came to mind. There are supposed to be outdoor performances right? But I got a bigger problem at hand…how will I be able to arrive at the Mall of Asia on time for the pyro?
I keep on forgetting there’s one glaring law in the metropolis: after a heavy rainfall, taxi cabs are hardly available. So around 5 pm, together with my Canon S2 IS cam, cap, tripod, several SD cards with capacity ranging from 256MB to 2GB, a partly-charged battery, I took the jeepney ride along Pasong Tamo from PRC. I only heard about this street being flooded beyond-ankle-high after every heavy rain. Now, I’ve seen it in my own eyes. More than 75% of the PRC to EDSA stretch of the street is flooded with dark waters, the sources of which I don’t wanna know.
