Hi! I’m Imi, a Brighton-born languages student at the University of Manchester. I love non-English-language films – the more outrageous the plot the better – and music that damages my eardrums, and I spend an indecent amount of my time hunting for cafés with inexpensive hot chocolate and plentiful plug points. I spent a lot of my teenage years reading other people’s blogs and marvelling at their adventures. In about April of 2019, having visited 3 countries within the space of two weeks, it finally occurred to me that my own life might be interesting enough to write about on the internet and the Urge to Create took hold, so I set about battling Illustrator and WordPress to design and create my own blog – and here it is!
I chose this name for my blog because I feel like it essentially sums up my life and interests, respectively. Also, who doesn’t love a cheeky bit of alliteration? The eagle eyed of you may have noticed that all my blog posts are tagged with either ‘chaos’ or ‘creation’ – or occasionally both. The ‘chaos’ normally refers to things like uni, festivals or trips away, which are all too short and therefore necessarily hectic – things I remember as a happy blur. The ‘creations’ are all the beautiful things I seek out within this chaos, and sometimes even come up with: music, art, books, films. Food. And drinks, of course. Architecture. Nature. All that good stuff.
In July 2019 I moved to Buenos Aires to complete a year abroad as part of my degree. I did a fairly undemanding internship organising events for foreign students, and I ate a lot of steak. I was also fortunate enough to be able to travel a lot while I was there: I went to the waterfalls at Iguazú, the beautiful towns of Colonia del Sacramento and Montevideo just across the river in Uruguay, El Tigre in the delta of Río de la Plata, an incredible music festival in São Paulo, Brazil, and when the universities shut for the summer, my mother and I embarked on our great Argentine adventure. And Chilean, actually. We went to Patagonia to see and trample on mountains, glaciers, fossils, the southernmost landmass before the South Pole, and – joy of joy – penguins. We then spent a couple of days thawing in Córdoba before heading into the desert to the wine capital of the Americas, Mendoza, for Christmas. Very annoyingly indeed, my year abroad was forcibly cut short in March due to Covid-19, but I’m determined to spend more time in the Southern Cone in the future.
I take all my photos on a Canon 4000D or an iPhone SE. I use an 18-55mm lens with the Canon, and that works well for most things! If I’m on my own, I also use a Vanguard Alta CA 203AT tripod. I edit my photos in Lightroom.
